How Can Your Major Make The World a Better Place

I think that any scientific major generates a contribution to society, since science is dedicated to discovering and understanding phenomena in order to improve our lives. Specifically, the biochemistry major makes contributions that change our way or understanding how microorganisms or our own body work. New discoveries are published every day, mainly related to diseases.

What I like most about my major is that it allows me to investigate, since I see myself carrying out studies in a laboratory. However, science currently has a small budget, especially in Chile, since the contribution of science is not valued. Because of this, the necessary tools and facilities are not available either.

Despite this, in Chile there are renowned scientists who have contributed to science. Personally, I would love to work in the area of genetic engineering. I want to find a cure for genetic diseases that have no treatment, but at the same time are accessible to everyone.
